Our Values
Customer and Partner Obsessed
Our job is to help our customers leverage their proprietary data in order to deliver A+ experiences for their customers. To do that, we often have the wonderful opportunity to partner with agencies or technology providers. For these partners, our mission is to help them leverage data science to make their services and products as performant as possible. We always choose the trust-building path, never oversell our capabilities, and are accountable for our mistakes. When in doubt the bank error is always in the customer’s / partner’s favor.
Outcomes, not Inputs
With big data comes the ability to create amazing value. Or … to do a lot of busy work and create reports and dashboards and not move the needle. Our customers and partners care if they are improving or not. When you prioritize for impact, navel-gazing and talking about what you do becomes moot; driving positive outcomes on business critical work is all that matters. We break problems down into components and rigorously try to drive results towards the most crucial “jobs to be done”, not something high falutin that doesn’t move the needle.
Data Is in Our DNA
We solve hard problems, so that our customers and partner agencies have more capacity to accomplish their goals. Orita is building a world-class data science and machine learning team. Prioritizing research and pushing boundaries are key drivers of our success; we expect our team to create innovative data products. At the same time, we know that if our customers and partners don’t understand what those products mean for them, even the biggest breakthroughs in the world just won’t matter.
Move Fast. Learn Fast.
If we’re customer obsessed and outcome oriented and data driven … it won’t matter if we’re slow. Speed wins when you have an ear to what your customers and partners need (or want!). We are a team that finds problems and takes initiative, especially when the decision point is a “two way door”, i.e. one that can be changed. We believe that done is normally better than perfect, in large part because being “done” means that you can learn more and then iterate towards perfection. Email template change? Move fast and test it. Hiring? Maybe take your time. We rely on each other to have good judgment in these decisions. Then, when you learn, level up our organization through documentation and sharing.

Oritans (we’ll workshop this) are empowered, fearless, kind, and committed to our customers, partners, and to each other. At our best, we’re a team, relentlessly focused on accomplishing shared goals. When things go wrong we don’t point fingers, we take joint accountability and sprint to find a fix. We trust each other to execute our respective roles; but we’re there to support when a teammate needs a hand. We value open and honest dissent, and ultimately we disagree-and-commit (like, truly commit) when the decision isn’t ours.
